| Tropical, evergreen perennial with short rhizomes and smooth, leathery, 4 to 20 inch long, oblong to elliptic leaves. Leaf stalks are red. Unusual, 5 to 28 inch long inflorescences, loosely resembling bird's of paradise, hold orange-red sepaled flowers. Borne from spring through summer.
Requires a minimum temperature of 59 degrees F. Excellent cut flowers. Native from Antilles to eastern Brazil. |
