| Papaver alpinum is a pretty poppy that does best in colder climates. It reaches 6 to 8 inches tall, and is a good choice for rock gardens. It forms a basal rosette, and has blue-green, almost hairless stems and foliage, in contrast to many of the more hirsute species of Papaver. Flowers in a range of colors; white, orange, yellow, or salmon, blooms are 1-1 1/2 inches across.
Will flower the first year from seed, sow in either fall or early spring on average garden soil with good drainage. Perennial in colder climates. |
