Corylus cornuta
( Beaked Filbert )
| C. cornuta is a deciduous shrub, reaching 4-8 feet high and wide. It is smaller and more refined than other filbert shrubs and might be a good edition to an informal shrub border. Foliage is dark green in summer, yellowish in the fall. The male flowers are short catkins, 1/2-1 inch long, female flowers are inconspicuous. |
| Important Info : The small filbert nut is edible, and gets its name from the 1 1/2 inch husk that covers the nut, producing a "beak" shape. Native from Quebec to Saskatchewan, south to Georgia, and Missouri. |
