| The Acanthophoenix is a single trunk, spear-pinnate shaped palm. The cylindrical crown shaft is vivid green. This palm has red veins displayed on deep green fronds that fade with age. Sharp spines are prominent in youth and most shed as they age. The leaflets are green or white bottomed and pendulous. Inconspicous white, yellow, red, purple or pink flowers are produced in panicles during the summer. Grows well from almost sea-level to relatively high elavations. This genus has become rare due to the over-harvesting of the cabbages. |
