| Scabiosa atropurpurea is a branching, wiry-stalked, upright annual with entire or serrated, medium green, up to 5 inches long, spoon-shaped basal leaves and pinnatified stem leaves. Dwarf Double produces a combination of white, pink, blue, and deep purple, double, fragrant flowers, each to 2 inches wide. The name pincushion perfectly fits the description of the flower as it has a rounded form. Scabiosa thrives in soil that is sunny, neutral to alkaline, well-drained, and on the dry side. It does not like excessive winter moisture. Native to southern Europe. |
