| Zizyphus jujuba is a unique large shrub or small tree, 15-25 foot tall. Growth habit is rounded, foliage is glossy green, may turn a nice yellow in fall. Small, yellow flowers are in clusters of 2 to 3, emerging from the leaf axils of current season's growth. The fruit is an edible "date", 1/2- 1 inch long, looks like a small plum, dark red to black upon ripening. Native from southeastern Europe and eastern Asia. Introduced 1640. |
