| 'White Belgian' is a white heirloom variety which is quite large, often growing 24-28 inches long. The exposed portion of the root will go green, but it does not become bitter. Heavily trench the ground before planting to 36 inches and mix well with sand. This variety will overwinter well in straw. Excellent soup stock starter. Loose, well-drained soil, free from clods and stones are a must for carrots. If your soil is less than ideal, plant only short rooted varieties. |
