| This medium sized variety has red to grey bark and leaves that are around 6 inches long. Flowers form in 1 foot clusters and vary in color from cream, pale pink, orange, salmon or light red. Seed capsules are about an inch wide and cup shaped. Desired flower color can best be achived with seedling rather than from seed. The foliage of nearly all species has a strong pungent odor similar to menthol. Well drained soil is preferable. Trees do very well planted from seed. Plant seeds in spring or summer keep shaded and water sparingly until 2 to 3 inches high. |
