Viburnum opulus
( Nanum European Cranberry Bush )
| 'Nanum' is a dwarf shrub, very dense, 18 to 24 inches in height and 1 1/2 times that in spread which makes a good filler or facer plant and can be used for low hedges. 'Nanum' will not withstand wet, poorly drained conditions.
The foliage is glossy dark green, sometimes turns yellow-red to purple in fall, though not consistently. The white flowers bloom in late spring, on flat topped cymes, with sterile showy flowers combined with inconspicuous fertile flowers. A red berry-like drupe ripens in the fall, quite ornamental, gradually shriveling over the winter.
Easy to grow, adaptable to different soil types, occasionally bothered by aphids and borers. Good multipurpose shrub. |
