| Autumn Purple is a tall, deciduous tree. This cultivar tends to be broadly conical in habit. Medium fast growing tree that has ash-gray bark with diamond shaped furrows. The foliage is glossy dark green above, paler on leaf underside. The flowers are not showy, greenish-purple panicles blooming in mid spring, on male and female trees. Early fall colors of crimson and maroon shades. The fruit is not especially ornamental. Thrives in full sun, on moist well drained soil. Prune in fall. Subject to many pests including leaf spot, rusts, cankers, ash borer, lilac borer, gall, scale and webworm. When healthy and vigorous, a beautiful specimen tree. Native to Nova Scotia, Minnesota, and south to Floria and Texas. |
