| Aechmea are known for beautiful foliage, long lasting color and vivid berry-like fruit. Found growing on trees in open pastures at 600 foot elevation in Southern Brazil, the Minas Gerais area. Aechmea babusoides has a unique 3-foot high stemmed inflorescence than leans with the weight and has small branches like the bamboo. The stiff, gray-green leaves reach 2 feet in length and are edged with pointy spines forming a bottle-shaped rosette. It has rose-red bracts with yellow flowers. |
