Cucurbita maxima
( Turban Squash )
| 'Turban', also known as 'Turk's Cap' is an heirloom variety which looks something like an acorn squash in shape. Today is is grown more for ornament than cooking, because the flesh is bland. However, it does keep extremely well. Dark green leaved vines produce squashes 8 by 12 inches, which weigh between 8 to 10 pounds. Usually the fruits are ready 120 days after sowing. |
| Important Info : The vines need plenty of room to sprawl, although some can be supported on a trellis. Summer or winter squash or pumpkins should be sown indoors in flats in short season areas, 3-4 weeks before the night soil temperatures have warmed up. |
