| The North Tisbury Hybrids were developed by Polly Hill of Martha's Vineyard in the 1960s using seed and cuttings from Japan. Many of the hybrids are from R. nakaharai, a dwarf, hardy evergreen azalea native to northern Taiwan. Flowers are borne late in the season in small clusters of one to three blooms. Its low habit makes this cultivar well suited for ground cover or hanging baskets. Filtered light is best.
Plant as you would any azalea: high and in well-drained, acid soil, rich in organic matter. Though azaleas have a potentially large list of possible pest and disease problems, they are usually trouble free if planted correctly in proper cultural conditions. |
