| Pseudolarix kaempferi is a broad, spreading, deciduous conifer, growing 30 to 50 feet tall, 20 to 40 feet wide, slow growing. Leaves are light green above, and bluish-green below. Fall color is brief but dramatic, golden-yellow to orange-yellow, lasting approximately two weeks. Flowers are dense yellow catkins. Cones are solitary, 2 to 3 inches long, rich greenish-purple when young, golden brown upon maturation.
Requires light, moist, well drained, acidic soil, and prefers full sun. Not troubled by pests generally. A fine specimen tree, can be used on small properties if well sited. Native to China, elevations 3000 to 4000 feet. |
