| The cultivar, 'Shalimar' is much hardier than the species and has blue-green leaves. This large, graceful cedar has a pyramid shape and long, stiff green needles with barrel-shaped cones. The branches grow in a airy manner and droop at their tips. It enjoys cooler climates and full sun.
C. deodara is a popular specimen evergreen tree, reaching 40-70' tall, under cultivation. It is a very graceful tree with pendulous branches, widespreading with a flat topped crown in maturity. Foliage is blue to grayish green, almost silvery at times. Flowers are inconspicuous, cones are in singles or pairs, 3-4" long, reddish brown in maturity. Prefers sunny and well drained location. Can be subject to canker and weevil. Native from Afghanistan. Various cultivars are available. |
