The Australian Giant Pumpkin & Vegetable Society Inc was formed last year to coordinate giant pumpkin competitions and promote giant pumpkin growing across Australia by a group of dedicated growers and competitors. The 1997 competition was held at two sites, one in Western Australia, the other in Victoria. The 1998 competition, conducted on 4 April, will see more sites participating, with confirmed sites already in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, and Queensland. We are also officially exchanging results with New Zealand who are holding their competition on the same weekend, to ascertain the (yet to be named) Champion.

The current Australian Heaviest Pumpkin is 258.4kgs and was grown in 1998 in Victora and the quality of all competing pumpkins is increasing annually.

Sadly we have to close the Australian Giant Pumpkin & Vegetable Society Inc (AGPVS), and are hoping you would remove reference to it from your site. Thank you so much for all the help and support you have given us over the years. Unfortunately, the group ended up comprising of onlya few people.
We have
had to cancel our competition we had planned for this year, because no-one seems to have any pumpkins. The weather has been really bad this year for pumpkins, very cool, it is the end of summer in 13 days, and we are only getting two continuous days over 100.

Atlantic Seeds is still in operation.
