| Large rounded leaves that are leathery in texture and glossy. The flowers appear in short spikes up to 1 and1/2 feet in height in shades of pink. Bergenia ciliata is consider most refined of this genus, Berginia crassifolia, probably the best known and able to withstand neglect and harsh conditions. For happiest plants, locate in partially shaded area with adequate water and sheltered from biting frosts. This coarse textured plant works well under trees and in the shady border as a companion with hosta and ferns. |
