| Stachyurus praecox is not well known amongst gardeners, but is a fine winter-flowering shrub. Magpie is not as vigorous as the species and has an arching and rounded habit. Leaves are wide, medium green with cream margins. The flowers are small, pale yellow, appearing in early spring on 2-3 inch pendulous racemes. Fruits are small, yellow-red and berry-like. Prefers moist well drained acidic soil. Native to Japan. |
