| A genus of about 50 species of bulbous perennials, with thousands of cultivars. Most flower in spring, bearing 1 to 20 flowers, on leafless stems; most with yellow or white flowers; some have red, orange or pink coronas. 6 spreading petals surround a trumpet-shaped corona. Basal leaves are cylindrical or strap-shaped. Can be naturalized or forced to bloom indoors. Lift and divide clumps when flowering becomes sparse. The cultivar 'White Lion' bears double blooms in a waxy white, with center petals intermingling with pale yellow. |
