| Hessei is a large, extremely vigorous, deciduous tree. It forms a rounded, broad spreading crown with simple, lustrous dark green, prominently toothed leaves, remaining green into late fall. Prefers deep, moist, loamy soil, and thrives on limestone based soil. Very popular in Europe but has is not as much used in North America, due to the availability of native ash trees. Good resistance to disease and pests but susceptible to ash borer. The species is native to Europe and Asia Minor. Cultivated for centuries. |
