Salix alba
( Golden Weeping Willow )
| Also known as S. vitellina var. pendula and S. alba 'Niobe'. With a wide canopy of gracefully pendulous, golden branches, this spectacualar tree is rapidly becoming the choice weeping willow in gardens. Leaves are narrow, lance-shaped, bright greenish-yellow, up to 4 in. long. Narrow, silvery-green male catkins, to 2 in. long, and females to 1 in. long. Grows to 80' tall. A superb specimen by water, but don't plant this tree anywhere near a septic system or its lines or you and the Roto-Rooter man will know each other on a first name basis. |
