| Syringa vulgaris is a leggy shrub, somewhat irregular in shape. Developed in Southern California, the Descanso hybrids are tolerant of mild winters and can adapt well to Sunset zones 18 to 22. Forrest K. Smith has fragrant, light lavender flowers held on 4 to 8 inch panicles, appearing in late spring to early summer. Prefers a neutral soil, with peat or leaf mold enrichment. Remove the dead flower heads. Fine for the shrub border, not really a specimen plant. |
