| Thorny, rounded, deciduous, flowering tree. Leaves are ovate, glossy, shallow lobed, to 2 inches long. Profuse, double , dark pink flowers to 1/2 inch across are held in corymbs, followed by ovoid red fruit to 1/2 long. Hawthorns are valued for their long season of interest, and for attracting wildlife. Popular cultivars include 'Paul's Scarlet', double rose flowers, 'Double White' and 'Double Pink', both setting very little fruit, and 'Superba' or 'Crimson Cloud', crimson single flowers with white centers and bright red fruit. |
