Perennial weed with robust and pointed rhizomes. Leaves are flat and folded with sparse hair on tips. Stiff seedheads. This weed is found primarily in Gulf Coast region of the United States from Florida to Texas.

Panicum miliaceum is an upright, clump forming, annual with flat, narrow leaves, sometimes purple flushed. Bears rigid, intricately branched panicles of slightly pendent, purple-tinged green flowers, in small spikelets, in late summer. Also known as ‘Millet’, an edible grain food.

Perennial with large seed heads with spreading branches, flat leaves and blunt flowers. Stems bend and root at nodes. Densely tufted stems and fine wrinkles on seeds. Grows mainly in Florida’s peninsula and southern Texas. Seed reproduction.

Purple seed head and broad, smooth leaves on sprawling annual. Bent, outward braching stems and hairy ligule. Leaves have unusual light green midrib. Seed reproduction.

Panicum capillare is a loosely tufted annual with clumps of flat, linear, mid-green leaves, to 12 inches long. In late summer and fall, bears dense panicles of tiny, greenish-brown spikelets on fine branchlets.

Annual grass with purplish flowers, and broad, flat leaves. Ascending branches from seedhead. Leafy, ascending stems. Hairy leaf sheaths and some fine hair on leaves. Grows only in parts of Florida. Reproduction from seed.
